Spinach Orange salad

Spinach Orange salad is one of the favorite salads recently all over the world. With the whole hype about healthy food, salad dieting and raw vegetables, spinach became one of the fanciest salad ingredients. We are talking about raw and young spinach, of course, the same one that Greeks use in their famous spanakopita. When “old”, spinach is acidic and not that good neither in taste nor for digestion. But the fresh, young leaves combined with fruit and some additional ingredients, really have a particular feeling for taste buds. Oranges are probably the most common and most beloved fruit to combine with spinach simply because these two have some chemistry between them – not only flavor wise. The visual combination of the shiny, deep nuance of green and warm orange-yellow in your plate is water mouthing by default.

The Spinach Orange salad makes a great company to grilled meat, seafood or a plate of cheeses. Not to mention feta!!! Try this salad with feta sprinkled with dry oregano, pepper and olive oil, and you will be in summer heaven of flavors! Orange slices release their sweet juice that combines great with greens, especially spinach. That’s why the Spinach Orange salad is also a very good choice for those who don’t fancy fresh lemon juice or vinegar for whatever reason.

Spinach Orange Salad Recipe

salad with spinach and orange

  • Spinach young leaves
  • Radicchio leaves
  • Frisee Lettuce green leaves
  • Peeled oranges in slices
  • Red Onions, rounds
  • Tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

You can take as much spinach, radicchio or Frisee Lettuce leaves as you want. Spinach is supposed to be the predominant green ingredient of the Spinach and Orange salad, so make sure to use more spinach. Rinse the spinach thoroughly with running water and let it dry. Do the same with radicchio and the Frisee Lettuce, but don’t wash them together.

Peel the orange or oranges (depending what amount of salad you are making), and slice each orange. For the best result, make sure you remove the white membrane from each slice.

Cut the red onions in thin rounds. Cut tomatoes as well – you can use either regular or cherry tomatoes, both work well. If using the cherry tomatoes, don’t slice them. Arrange all ingredients at the plate, season with salt and sprinkle with olive oil.
